About The Artists
Frankie's Rhythm Rats

Website

We are delighted that Frankie's Rhythm Rats will be making their debut at the Country Soul. A collection of seasoned musicians who play in numerous well known class outfits Frankie's Rhythm Rats have came together "to fill the gaps" between playing club and festivals here in the UK & Europe. Featuring Morgan Willis on guitar (Danny McVey Trio / Lobo Jones & The Rhythm Hounds et. al), Emma Goss on the "doghouse bass" (Sarah Vista / Hiway 51 et. al), Zack Godden on drums (Lobo Jones & The Rhythm Hounds / The Doggone Honkabillies), Frank Cooke on guitar/lap steel (The Ska Monics / Wild West) and last but certainly not least the very great Mr Frankie Riedel on vocals/rhythm guitar. The band's repertoire is a classy mix of rockabilly and country tones and just about anything else that rocks their toes.

Charlie Knowles

Website

We are delighted that Charlie Knowles will be making his debut at the October Country Soul. Charlie is a country rock singer-songwriter based in Whitechapel, East London. His recently recorded EP, produced in LA by Grammy award nominated and multi-Juno award winning producer Brandon Frieson, features Chris Condon (MD Billy Ray Cyrus) on guitars and legendary rock backing vocalist Stevie Vann Lange. A song from this EP ‘The Man You Take For Worse’ was released Feb 2019 and has received national radio play. The EP ‘Somewhere East of Denmark Street’ will be released July 2019. For this Session, Charlie will be accompanied by London’s new talent on lap steel guitar, Dr Frank Cooke.

Drew Morrison and the Darkwood

Website

The house band are looking forward to treading the CSS boards once again. The Darkwood are Nick Steyn (drums), Ian Gant (guitar), George London (bass & singing) and songwriter Drew Morrison (guitar and singing). The band's central vision of a music touched by influences ranging from Alt Country, Pop & Rock N' Roll all tinged with 'golden chording' has remained focussed and realised itself into a unique sound. Expect to hear flashes of late 1960s Velvets, Jimmy Webb-esque wordplay and electrical guitar playing that has one foot in the 1950s and the other very much in the now.
